Some members of the community also return home to visit and pay respect to their elders. While some people volunteering in neighborhoods by making and distributing free services, others are organising events that encourage and entertain the elders. In most events, blessings, caterings and entertainments are provided by young generation with various cultural performances.\u00a0 The elders also provide blessing to all community as a tradition of reciprocity. In the Oromo culture, blessing\u00a0is very important<\/span><span class=\"a\">\u00a0concept of speech act which shows calling upon\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"a\">supernatural power to bestow good deeds for human beings.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Who are Oromo Elders?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>They have raised, and shared with Oromo younger generations.<\/li>\n<li>Many were hard working citizens who comprise the backbone of Oromo generation.<\/li>\n<li>They are history makers.<\/li>\n<li>They are neighbors who often need some help in order to live in the homes they love.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>The Value of Gumeechaa<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<a title=\"Oromo people\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Oromo_people\">Oromo People<\/a>\u00a0celebrate Gumeechaa to appreciate the sacrifice and contributions that elders make to the whole society. It is a highlight on the Oromo cultural calendar that honoring the sacrifice and contributions and raising awareness about issues affecting the elderly, such as isolation.\u00a0 Oromo elders are reinforcing their historical roles as leaders and as links with our patrimony and sense of purpose as individuals and as a Nation. Historically, older members of Oromo society were valued for their vast knowledge, wisdom and contributions to society.<\/p>\n<p>The event reduces the isolation of Oromo elders and their families and increase awareness of the social and community services available to them. It values Elders sacrifice and contributions so that they can participate to the fullest in the community. It will raise awareness about elders contribution in the community so that we aware to reserve a special day in honor of the senior citizens who mean so much to our community.
